If it takes you too long to pick an outfit in the morning, it could be for several reasons:

  1. You have too many clothes to choose from.
  2. Your clothes are disorganized, making it hard to choose something.
  3. Your clothes aren’t organized by season.

In most cases, it could be a combination of all three reasons, but this post will focus on number 3 - organize clothes by season.

How To Organize Clothes By Season

Grab Some Essentials

To get started with your wardrobe switch, you’ll need a few things to help you out. From storage boxes to vacuum packs and labels, it’s handy to have organizing products ready before you get to work. You’ll also need to find somewhere you can store your out-of-season items, like in the attic, under the bed, in another closet or in the garage.

Take It All Out

The best bit about organizing your closet is being able to take it all out and start over. It will give you a chance to declutter your clothing, and get rid of items you no longer wear or have become too big, too small or damaged over the years. Once you’re finished, you’ll only be left with items you really want to keep, making it easier to organize your closet. To wrap up your decluttering process, put your donations in the car and schedule time to take them to the charity of your choice.

Carefully Assign Clothing To Season

Now comes the hard part - deciding what belongs in each season! With some items of clothing, such as knitwear and coats, this can be obvious, but others will require some careful thought.

Think of it as building a capsule wardrobe for each season - what will you need for spring/summer and fall/winter? Sometimes, it comes down to fabric - your light, floaty linens will be perfect for summer dressing, while chunky wool and leather are probably best suited for your winter looks.

Some items, like cotton basics, are wearable all year round, so don’t forget to factor those into your planning.

Invest In New Items

If you organize your clothes by season, you will soon see where the gaps are in your closet and whether there are any seasonal items you could use to give your wardrobe more variety. Choosing a couple of items each season will help keep things fresh, adding to your capsule wardrobe.

Accessories like jewelry are always worth the investment as they can be worn throughout the year, adding a little interest to your look. When you get into the habit of seasonal dressing, you’ll come to see just how important your accessories are for keeping your look fresh.

Carefully Store Your Clothes

With the clothes you’re putting away, be sure to store them carefully. There could be up to six months of the year when they’re in storage, so you’ll want to ensure they’re carefully protected. Vacuum packing your clothing is a great way to keep it safe from dust and damp conditions, and will minimize the amount of storage required too. Pay extra attention to more fragile items to help keep them safe.

Find A Place For Everything

Now that you’re left with a lot less clothing to work with, you can get to work organizing your closet as you see fit. Find a place for everything to keep things neat and make it easier to find. From bins for your hats and gloves to special shoe shelves, you can find different solutions to help organize your things.

A well-organized closet not only looks great, but it will be much easier to choose outfits, helping you feel inspired each time you open the door. Consider organizing your clothes by color or by style to make it even easier to pull a look together.

Organize Your Accessories

Many of your accessories, like bags and belts, can be worn throughout the year, so it’s important to organize them carefully - accessories can make an outfit, after all! From jewelry trays to pull-out storage solutions, there are different accessories organizers to help you find a place for everything.

Once you’ve given a seasonal switchover a go, you’ll never look back! If you organize clothes by season, it will help you feel less overwhelmed looking at your closet, making it easy to put looks together that you love. Start with a good clear out and soon you’ll have a seasonal wardrobe that fashion dreams are made of.
